Understand what is limiting growth

A structured, evidence-based assessment of the commercial system — leadership interviews, a workshop across five functions, and analysis benchmarked against world-class standards. Recommendations are modelled against your own sales velocity.

Why the order matters

We model the upside before you commit to the programme

Sales Velocity Analysis establishes your baseline: opportunity volume, average deal value, win rate, cycle length. The Growth Assessor™ then models its recommendations against those same four drivers — including where actions are interdependent and only create value together — so you understand what the plan is worth before you agree to it.

Most diagnostics end with a list of recommendations. This one models the commercial impact of acting on them.

The Merlin5 Vital 5™

Every growth constraint has a source

Commercial performance is rarely shaped by a single factor. It is the result of multiple systems working together — when one weakens, the impact is usually felt elsewhere. The Growth Assessor™ evaluates the whole system rather than functions in isolation.

Guiding principle

Strategy & Alignment

Strategic clarity, leadership alignment, growth priorities and organisational focus. It touches all five areas below — where strategy is unclear, every capability beneath it is optimising toward a target the organisation has not agreed.

Talent, Leadership and Enablement

Is the organisation creating long-term customer value, or acquiring customers it cannot keep?

Every organisation wants to acquire new customers. The highest-performing organisations place equal weight on retaining and growing the ones they already have. This area examines how well the organisation understands who its customers are, which of them create the greatest value, and whether the experience it delivers is designed or inherited.

The Growth Assessor™ workshop

Two hours in a workshop. Three weeks end to end.

Leadership teams often see one reality. Frontline teams experience another. The gap between them is usually where the constraint is hiding — which is why the workshop puts every function that shapes revenue in the same session, answering around 80 questions across the Vital 5™.

FAQ

Everything leadership teams need to know

How is this different from a traditional sales assessment?

A sales assessment evaluates the sales function. The Growth Assessor™ evaluates the commercial system — customer, go-to-market, sales, data and people — because a sales problem frequently originates outside sales. It also starts from a quantified baseline rather than an opinion, and it models the commercial impact of acting rather than simply listing what to change.

Why does Sales Velocity Analysis come first?

It establishes the baseline — opportunity volume, average deal value, win rate and cycle length. Without it, recommendations are unquantified: you know what to change but not what changing it is worth. With it, the plan can be modelled against the drivers that actually produce revenue.

Who needs to take part?

The workshop involves sales, marketing, operations, finance and leadership. Leadership interviews come first, to establish context. Where the organisation is large or distributed, the assessment can extend well beyond the workshop to capture how different regions, divisions and levels experience the same business differently.

What happens after the diagnostic?

You receive a prioritised action plan with the commercial impact modelled against your sales velocity baseline. Whether Merlin5 delivers that plan is a separate decision — the Accelerate Framework programme is agreed after the findings, not before. Some organisations execute the plan themselves.

Can Merlin5 support implementation?

Yes — through the Accelerate Framework, which turns the diagnosis into an execution plan with named ownership and measurable milestones. It is a separate agreement, made once you have seen what the diagnostic found.

How long does it take, and what does it cost my team?

Three weeks at most, from start to recommendations. The time investment from your team is two hours — the workshop itself. Leaders give an additional hour each for the interviews that establish context beforehand. Larger or more distributed organisations may extend the assessment beyond the workshop to capture how different regions and divisions experience the same business, but the core commitment does not change.

Know what to change, and what changing it is worth

The Growth Assessor™ establishes why performance is constrained, benchmarks it against world-class practice, and models the commercial impact of acting against your own sales velocity.
